Solarglide’s range of window films can be used on most non navigational windows, with the exception of rough or cast glass surfaces. Selecting the correct window film is very important for avoiding damage to the glass and most importantly for achieving the best results internally. Solarglide’s team of experts are here to support and recommend the best solution for your vessel by evaluating glass type, local climates and window access for installation. The majority of window films in the range are for internal installation; alternatively Solarglide also stocks external films, when internal installation is not possible due to obstruction.
Solar Film
Solar films help to reduce cooling costs by lightening the load on air conditioning equipment. They are an important part of complying with the Carbon Reduction Commitment Scheme and assist with reducing a company’s Carbon Footprint. Furthermore they help to alleviate the discomfort caused by excessive heat and glare reflections whilst at sea. Working in compliance with Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations solar films help to protect your crew members and colleagues.
INTERNAL MARINE SOLAR FILM
Safety Film
Astral safety and security films are designed to make glass safer, by strengthening it against breakage and helping hold dangerous shards of shattered glass together in one mass in situations where breakage occurs.
Tested and certified to BSEN 21600 Class 1B1 safety standards, our safety film complies with European guidelines for bomb blast protection. It is an essential part of your piracy prevention programme – for protecting your crew and vessel in the event of a terrorist attack, explosion or a criminal attempt to seize the vessel.
Once installed Astral safety film is unseen to the eye due to its clear appearance, and acts as an invisible protector for your crew – offering peace of mind while at sea.
INTERNAL SAFETY FILM
Privacy Film
Solarglide’s privacy films give two way privacy without seriously reducing the natural light level. They have a matt finish and can be applied to new or existing glass.
INTERNAL PRIVACY FILMS
Combined Solar Safety Film
Combined solar safety film offers both protection from heat & solar glare, with the additional protection from unforeseen broken glass in the event of an explosion or breakage.
INTERNAL COMBINED SOLAR SAFETY FILM
Blackout Film
Blackout films provide complete privacy, blocking out all visible light transmission whilst rejecting total solar energy by up to 99.9%. Blackout films are the ultimate in privacy, with no way to see in or out of a room. Ideal for hiding away storerooms or to create darkness for audio visual presentation rooms, including TV or video screening rooms. Sometimes windows are positioned in the wrong place offering an ugly view or taking up valuable internal space, blackout films can quickly turn a window into a wall area, providing a cheap and easy alternative to having the glass removed.

Frequently asked quEstions
Which film is best for reducing the heat?
Reflective films (such as silver) are best for reducing heat as they have a high metal content. The metal reflects the light, thus reducing the heat coming into the room.
Can you fit solar film to laminated glass?
It is possible to fit to laminated glass, but its critical you choose the correct film to prevent the risk of glass cracking. Fitting film to the external face of the glass offers the least risk for laminated glass. Films with no more than 40% absorption are best for laminated windows. Solarglide’s experts are here to help!
Can you fit solar film to toughened glass?
Yes, you can install all our films directly to toughened glass safely, which is used for the majority of marine windows.
What is the best temperature to fit solar film?
You should never fit solar film when the temperature is below 5 ̊C (It is not recommended that you fit the film during winter months in Europe) – this will vary for other countries depending upon the annual climate. Equally you should not attempt to fit the film in extremely hot weather – the temperature must be moderate.
Which surfaces are not suitable for film?
Our films are not suitable for rough or cast glass surfaces. In addition our film is not suitable for any surface that curves in two directions.
